19th Century Chinese Barrel Stools came to me very falling apart with many cracked joints. The ancient finish had degraded to an unattractive greyish color and there were black stains on the borders of the top. I repaired the puzzle-like joinery, re-aligning the surfaces so the full effect would be a smooth exterior. The stools were then extremely solid. I removed the stains, conserved the original finish, and because no sanding was done the lovely honey-colored fading and patina remained.
